The legacy of more than 100 years

Well on the way to performing 150 plays, The Players have been lucky enough to have some very dedicated individuals to steer the ship. This is most evident amongst the list of people who have directed the plays over the years. Of the 124 plays with known directors, 75 of them have been directed by just 4 people.

Topping the list with a remarkable 27 credits is Margaret Falcon who lived in Huby for almost 90 years, whilst Daphne Smith directed 20 plays. Between them they directed 15 consecutive plays from November 1981. Walter Williams directed 17 from 1958 to 1974 (including 5 in a row- twice!) and Vivian H Shaw, John Woolley and Rita Swallow directed a further 23 plays between them from 1947 to 2004. Pauline Moulsdale has 13 directing credits to date and is still acting and directing.

And it’s not just the directors! Recently Chris Holland and Chris Corkill notched up 49 performances on the stage between them and continue to bring audiences back wanting more. Let’s hope the legacy continues.
